Retro Windows Mobile
Retro Mobile: HP iPAQ rw6828 !
Going through my old tech cabinets and found this retro mobile, HP iPAQ rw6828, equipped with Windows Mobile 6.5 which came out in 2006, almost 20 years ago! The nostalgia sets in and I just have to write this blog to show my appreciation for this piece of tech history!

Beautiful and light, what a piece of tech!
📲 It still works!
I went ahead connect it to power outlet using mini-usb cable, and, to my surprise, it still works! The battery couldn’t hold the charges any longer, but the unit works with the usb cable attached. With the small stylus in hand, I went ahead and tested its functions.

It’s the real deal, with music, phone, push e-mail, and media player!
🕒📞 Went back in Time !
I remember getting this HP iPAQ unit for my wife in Hong Kong in 2006. It was sold for around 5200HKD (roughly around 700USD). Back then, there was no iphone or Android phone at the time. The first iphone was launched in 2007, and the first Android phone (HTC Dream) only came out in 2009. So, in 2006, PDA like O2 XDA, Windows Mobile, and Symbian, were the names of the game!

The all so familiar My Music, My Videos, My TV, and My Playlists of Windows!
📱 We’ve come so far with modern mobile phone!
I installed the latest Windows Mobile 6.5 onto this phone, using ARIEL ULTIMATE 6.5 ROM I downloaded from XDAforums in 2009. Good learning experience tinkering with this phone at the time.
Going through different settings on the phone, and comparing it to modern mobile phone. It’s obvious how far we’ve come, in terms of user experience and user interface design.

LiIon Battery try to charge!
Still lots of cool tech in my closet. Until next time!
